Calmness in Art
Coming into Ceramics 1, I had never used clay or thrown using a wheel before. When we did our throwing unit, I repeatedly made mistakes and failures, making myself frustrated in the process. When deciding what to do for my art show, it would have been easy for me to shy away from throwing and choose something I was better at, like hand building. But instead, I made a goal for myself to improve my throwing skills. I wanted to create some pieces that I would be proud of and make something where I could see my progress from the beginning of the semester, to the art show. I decided to make a cylinder cup, a vase, and a mug. Each required unique skill to create. I learned how to create each kind of piece and put time and effort into creating them. After creating them, I chose to drip glaze each piece blue to bring them together and unify my collection. I chose blue because it is my favorite color and it signifies calmness. I am excited to continue learning about ceramics next year.
